The Great White Way
February 18 2007 Sunday Evening 8 - 10 PM
The Alario Center, Westwego, Louisiana
The stage came to life as members and friends
of the krewe paid tribute to their favorite Broadway shows in this
production entitled "The Great White Way." For
anyone not familiar with this term, read our note below.
Our Drowsy Chaperone, Master of Ceremonies Viceroy Pat O'Rourke,
guided guests along this Broadway story filled with amazing
characters. Starting the tableau was The Tony Award portrayed by the Lord of
Misrule George Hester (Ball Captain). Among the costumes
presented were Jekyll and Hyde, Little Shop of Horrors, Beauty and
the Beast, The Boy from OZ, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King,
and Miss Saigon. The Lord of Leather Dancers under the direction of
Jeromy Roberts entertained the crowd throughout the evening. The Royal Court was presented as Phantom of the Opera
in two scenes from this dramatic show - Lord King XXIV Danny Alford
as Music of the Night and Lord Consort XXIV Danny Starns as
Masquerade.
Special thanks to:
Lord
George Hester, the Lord of Misrule (Ball Captain)
Lord David Boyd, Lord Temporal
(Ball Lieutenant)
and all the other krewe
members and volunteers who helped with the event.
Let's not forget the
beautiful Solitaire - Miss Southeast Leatherfest 2006, truly a
diamond and great entertainer.
The Great White Way
This nickname applies to an area of Broadway in the
Midtown section of the New York City borough of Manhattan. This area
is bounded by 42nd Street and 53rd Street known also as the Theater
District. Nearly a mile of Broadway was illuminated in 1880 by
Brush Arc Lamps, making it the first electrically lighted avenue in
the United States. The headline "Found on the Great White Way"
appeared in the February 3, 1902 edition of the New York Evening
Telegram. The journalistic sobriquet was inspired by the
millions of lights on theater marquees and billboard advertisements
that illuminate the area along the avenue including Times Square.
